01. Vancouver to Quadra Island / Granite Bay. Logging miles part 1

'Just logging miles' day 1. The forecast is hot and sunny with strong NW winds (NW 20, 20-25 in the evening).

We leave the Mosquito Creek (North Vancouver) dock at 6:30 am. Wind against tide means it is rough, choppy and not super comfortable from 1st Narrows all the way past Howe Sound to south Sechelt. A tough way to start! At least we had *everything* battened down before we started so no worries. Past experience of adopting the 'we can stow everything whilst underway' approach that did not end well has taught us! By 11:20 we are at Welcome Passage and it is far more agreeable. While we have a max of 21 knots on the nose it is all fine running up Malaspina Strait. Further north the wind abates and by Cape Mudge at 6:45 pm we are down to 10 knots wind. The slack at Seymour Narrows is 9:26 pm, and we timed to go through on the tail of the ebb. (max ebb is 6:31pm and 6.44 knots - and ebb is northerly versus southerly ebb in Georgia Strait). We were early, as planned, with the idea we could hang in Gowlland Harbour, or even Maud Island, if we had to. As it stood all was fine. Current was 2-3 knots at Cambell River, and an absolute max at 5 knots for a few minutes in the heart of Seymour Narrows over Ripple Rock with no whirlpools or other nastiness. Anchor down in Granite Bay at 9:10 pm. A long day! 115 nautical miles.
