08. Shearwater and Bella Bella

We moved over to the Sheawater docks for a night and to top up water, recharge batteries, pick up a family member from Bella Bella, and generally have an easy night.
Cool looking school in Bella Bella

In the sunshine we attended to boat maintenance given the great access to marine supplies / oil dump / etc - all the things one could want. There was enough time to catch up on world events in the sunshine.

It was then off to Bella Bella in the water taxi to pick up one of the family who had flown up from Vancouver. Seems that this is a popular option with at least 3 other boats meeting guests that same day - many from the US. Water taxi from Sheawater to Bella Bella is the way to go. Cost only $5 and frequent service. They even waited for passengers when the flight was a bit late. (Van shuttle 'taxi' from the airport to the dock was $15 per head).

Bella Bella itself was a very fast tour. The store - according to the Admiral who is aware of these things - was a bit better than Shearwater with a bit more fresh product. It didn't look like there was much dock space available at all and we were happy to be anchored off Shearwater and used to water taxi to get across.

What Bella Bella did have in abundance are Bald Eagles. They were thick as seagulls on the docks getting salmon scraps from  the fishermen. A local told us the local children can feed them from their hands. Watching so many Eagles and so close up was unique.

We closed the day with a bit of a party in the Pub. Two impersonators were on (Elvis, then a woman doing a few artists) and they were really entertaining (maybe the drinks helped too). Playing pool with some locals rounded out the evening. A bit different from the remoteness of the previous days!
