Given our great anchorage in Drew Harbour we have an opportunity to leave the boat and do some exploring. We wanted to get to the famous
Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre at Cape Mudge - on the other side of the island. Looking at options (bikes - too much like hard work, mopeds - too time intensive to arrange) we decide to hitch-hike. It worked in the 70's, so why not now? :) Ultimately it not only worked but we got to meet some great people. The locals ended up driving out of their way to get us there and back. Enormously hospitable.
The Cultural Centre itself is wonderful and a must-see stop.

After hitch-hiking back we ended up chatting to other locals in the Pub who showed us an impressive haul of rock scallops from local waters. Given the low tides they were getting them snorkling in about 10' of water and using hatchets to get them off the rocks. A good one to try next year,
The evening closed with a swim, steaks on the back deck, and a beautiful moom rising low over the anchorage. A great way to close a great day.
